Effects of the Running Gravitational Constant on the Amount of Dark Matter
نویسندگان
چکیده
The amount of dark matter in the Milky Way and beyond is examined by taking into account the possible running of the gravitational constant G as a function of distance scale. If the running of G, as suggested by the Asymptotically-Free Higher-Derivative quantum gravity, is incorporated into the calculation of the total dark matter in the galactic halo, the amount of dark matter that is necessary to explain the rotation curve is shown to be reduced by one third compared with the standard calculations. However, this running of G alone cannot reproduce the observed flat behavior of the rotation curve. It is also shown that the running of G cannot explain away the presence of most of the dark matter beyond the scale of ∼ 10 Mpc in the Universe. We also present a pedagogical explanation for the running of G(r) in the region of large scales which is clearly a classical domain. E-mail Address, [email protected]. Gravitational Theory, Galaxy Rotation Curves and Cosmology without Dark Matter
Einstein gravity coupled to a massive skew symmetric field Fμνλ leads to an acceleration law that modifies the Newtonian law of attraction between particles. We use a framework of non-perturbative renormalization group equations as well as observational input to characterize special renormalization group trajectories to allow for the running of the effective gravitational coupling G and the cou...
متن کاملDark Matter and Gravitational Lensing
The last decade has shown a considerable development of gravitational lensing for cosmology because it probes the amount and the nature of dark matter, and provides information on the density parameter Ω, the cosmological constant Λ and the Hubble constant Ho. Therefore, gravitational lensing can constrain the cosmological scenario which gave birth to the Universe as it appears today. The ongoi...
متن کاملFormation of Large Structures in the Acceleration Universe with a Hybrid Expansion Law
In the current paper, we have studied the effect of dark energy on for-mation where dark energy exists in the background. For this purpose, we used both WMAP9 and Planck data to study how the radius changes with redshift in these mod-els. We used different data sets to fix the cosmological parameters to obtain a solution for a spherical region under collapse. The mechanism of structure formation f...
متن کاملEarly Universe Models from Noncommutative Geometry
We investigate cosmological predictions on the early universe based on the noncommutative geometry models of gravity coupled to matter. Using the renormalization group analysis for the Standard Model with right handed neutrinos and Majorana mass terms, which is the particle physics content of the most recent noncommutative geometry models, we analyze the behavior of the coefficients of the grav...
متن کاملBi-metric Gravity and " Dark Matter "
We present a bi-metric theory of gravity containing a length scale of galactic size. For distances less than this scale the theory satisfies the standard tests of General Relativity. For distances greater than this scale the theory yields an effective gravitational constant much larger than the locally observed value of Newton's constant. The transition from one regime to the other through the ...
